Arthur Cordier

Arthur Cordier (1993) gebruikt afgedankt vrachtwagenzeil als basis voor zijn schilderijen. Op het verweerde en verkleurde oppervlak van het zeil brengt hij met tape en stickervel een compositie van organische en abstracte vormen aan. De organische vormen zijn gebaseerd op foto’s van plantenbladeren die hij uit vinyl snijdt en op het schilderij plakt. Het vinyl wordt deels verwijderd waardoor de vormen zich half tonen en half verhuld blijven. In andere werken wordt het vinyl gebruikt als tijdelijk sjabloon om de contouren van de planten op het pvc uit te bleken en zichtbaar te blijken. Naast dit formele onderzoek maakt Arthur Cordier ook een maatschappelijk statement door materiaal dat economisch geen waarde meer heeft in het artistieke proces in te zetten.

Arthur Cordier (1993) uses discarded truck tarpaulin as the basis for his paintings. On the weathered and discolored surface of the tarpaulin, he creates compositions of organic and abstract forms using tape and adhesive vinyl sheets. The organic shapes are based on photographs of plant leaves, which he cuts from vinyl and applies to the painting. The vinyl is partially removed, causing the shapes to appear partly revealed and partly concealed. In other works, the vinyl serves as a temporary stencil to bleach and make visible the contours of the plants on the PVC. Alongside this formal exploration, Arthur Cordier also makes a social statement by incorporating materials that no longer have economic value into his artistic process.
