Joris Geurts

Naast beeldend kunstenaar is Joris Geurts ook componist van kamermuziek. Dezelfde scherpte en helderheid die hij in notenschrift nastreeft, zoekt hij ook in zijn schilderijen en grafische werk. De visuele variant van ritme en melodie is abstract maar suggereert een verhaal. Daarbij legt Geurts de kleuren over elkaar heen als het timbre van verschillende instrumenten: rustige tinten geven de grondtoon aan waar meer uitgesproken kleuren eroverheen soleren. Er is altijd transparantie zodat je, net als bij een muziekensemble, tegelijkertijd de hele compositie en de afzonderlijke partijen ziet.*

In addition to being a visual artist, Joris Geurts is also a composer of chamber music. The same sharpness and clarity he strives for in musical notation can also be found in his paintings and graphic work. The visual counterpart of rhythm and melody is abstract, yet suggests a narrative. Geurts layers colours like the timbre of different instruments: muted tones provide the underlying key, while more expressive colours play solos over them.
