Katja Mater

Katja Mater is beeldend kunstenaar, filmmaker, redacteur en docent en werkt tussen Amsterdam en Brussel. Mater's artistieke praktijk is gericht op de grenzen van optische media en combineert verschillende disciplines zoals fotografie, film, tekenen, performance en installatie. Mater werkt aan het onthullen van de manieren waarop optische media en het menselijk oog zich verschillend gedragen. De eerste is in staat om gebeurtenissen vast te leggen die tegelijkertijd wel en niet kunnen zijn - ze houden het midden tussen informatie en interpretatie.

Katja Mater is a visual artist, filmmaker, editor, and lecturer, working between Amsterdam and Brussels. Mater’s artistic practice focuses on the boundaries of optical media, combining various disciplines such as photography, film, drawing, performance, and installation. She aims to reveal the ways in which optical media and the human eye behave differently. The former is capable of capturing events that can both exist and not exist at the same time—hovering between information and interpretation.
