Sigrid Calon

Borduurwerk is de basis van Sigrid Calons grafische werk. De kleinste eenheid is een grid met negen stippen, drie bij drie, waarbinnen acht steken mogelijk zijn. Naarmate het aantal stippen toeneemt, groeit het aantal opties exponentieel. Calons favoriete medium is de risoprinter, een soort doorontwikkelde stencilmachine. Vergelijkbaar met zeefdrukken print dit apparaat één of twee kleuren per keer. De stapeling van kleurlagen zorgt voor een zeer levendig resultaat: het platte vlak krijgt er een ongekende diepte en bewegelijkheid door.

Embroidery forms the basis of Sigrid Calon’s graphic work. The smallest unit is a grid of nine dots, three by three, within which eight stitches are possible. As the number of dots increases, the number of options grows exponentially. Calon’s preferred medium is the risograph printer, a type of advanced stencil machine. Similar to screen printing, this device prints one or two colours at a time. The layering of colour produces a highly vibrant result, giving the flat surface an unprecedented sense of depth and movement.
