Thomas Elshuis

Thomas Elshuis (Hilversum, 1961) is gefascineerd door de fotografie als middel om onze reizen vast te leggen. Reisfoto’s worden gebruikt als aanleiding voor verhalen, als een katalysator voor het geheugen. In 1998 heeft hij een beeldarchief met zo’n 20.000 dia’s geërfd. Sindsdien componeert hij voor het creëren van nieuw werk alleen nog met materiaal uit dit archief waardoor het oude beeld opnieuw tot leven komt.

Thomas Elshuis (Hilversum, 1961) is fascinated by photography as a means of recording our travels. Travel photos are used as a prompt for stories, as a catalyst for memory. In 1998, he inherited an image archive with about 20,000 slides. Since then, for the creation of new work, he has only composed with material from this archive, bringing old images back to life.
